Monday Mindset - Signs You’re Ready to Start a Business - Part 1

A quieter look at the subtle signs you may be nearer than you realise

Every now and then, someone reaches out. Sometimes it’s after a chat with a friend. Sometimes it’s because an idea has been hanging around for months, refusing to disappear. Sometimes it’s simply a moment of honesty — “I should probably talk to someone about this.”

Wherever the starting point is, I’m glad you’ve decided to take the plunge and begin building your own business.

This is the part where the pace drops a little — a moment to really think things through. You don’t need to make huge, life‑changing decisions right now. It’s a time to reflect on the path that’s brought you here. A time to plan, then plan again, and when you think you’ve planned enough, go back through it once more.

Not everyone gets the dramatic “I’m ready” moment. It’s rarely a flash of certainty. You’ll get plenty of uncertainty — and that’s fine. It’s a balance. You can’t have one without the other.

More often, it’s something softer: a shift

in how things feel, a thought that keeps looping back, a sense that the current setup doesn’t quite match who you’re becoming.

Maybe that’s where things are for you right now. Just… something stirring. Call it unrest, call it curiosity, call it whatever you like — but sometimes it simply feels right to take the plunge and become self‑employed.

The idea that keeps returning

There’s usually one idea that refuses to leave.

It shows up in the middle of ordinary moments — washing up, driving, walking, trying to fall asleep. It gets pushed aside, postponed, reasoned with… and still finds its way back.

Not loudly.

Just consistently. It’s always there — like that annoying person at work.

It’s easy to dismiss it. But ideas don’t tend to linger without purpose. Sometimes they’re simply waiting for you to catch up. Sometimes it takes years, but one day you just know it’s time.

The work that’s already happening

Long before anything is “official,” the early version of the work often slips into everyday life. People drift your way when they’re stuck. Conversations naturally turn into problem‑solving. Guidance, support, reassurance — it all seems to happen without much effort.

Nothing formal. Nothing labelled as an “actual business.” Just the kind of support that often becomes the backbone of a business later on.

It’s surprising how often things begin long before anyone calls it a beginning.

The shape of your days

There comes a point where the rhythm of life starts to feel slightly off.

Not in a dramatic way — more like a quiet awareness that the days could fit better.

More space to breathe.

More choice in how you spend your time.

More alignment between who you are and how you live.

It’s not usually a grand revelation — though sometimes it is. More often, it just creeps up on you.

A gentle shift in what feels acceptable… and what no longer does.

And that shift, more than anything, tends to be the sign that something is moving.
