Neurodiversity

I am no expert and have no professional or medical training when it comes to working with Neurodiverse (ND) people but I have a fair bit of real life experience and that counts for an awful lot, so believe me when I say I will tread very carefully in this section.

I would say a good 80% of my friends have either been diagnosed or are going through the process of getting a diagnosis, this is a huge amount and has led me to wonder if I’m also on the spectrum. I definitely have some strong indicators going on but I’ve got this far so due to the long wait and because of lengthy process in getting diagnosed it’s unlikely I’ll bother.

What I do know is that Neurodiverse people struggle with many tasks that Neurotypicals find an absolute breeze to achieve. This could be something as simple as being on time or even picking up the phone and calling the doctors to make an appointment.

With sometimes years between that first appointment and actual diagnosis people are quite often left to struggle with little or no help forthcoming, often family members with no understanding of the condition are the worst culprits showing little appreciation or empathy for the struggles faced. Meanwhile the difficulties just carry on and everyday life can be unbearable especially when in a workplace full of Neurotypicals. If you have children and you’re running a household things can be even harder and at times overwhelming.

Sometimes you feel lost and feel like you have nowhere to turn and no help. If there is anything I can do to help please do not hesitate to get in touch. Yes I’m running a business but this is something very close to my heart so I would really love to make a positive change in your day to day life.

Have a look around this section for some of the things you might struggle with, there’s a few I struggle with but also some I’m really good at, it just goes to show being Neurodiverse isn’t the same for everyone. Quite often those closest to us really don't understand how much it can affect our lives and we're just left to get on with it. This is especially true in the workplace and although steps are being made to address this we are way behind where we need to be.
